General
Azure Gleam
Yuri was born to extreme poverty, the same as much of the population of Fodlan, living with his mother in a small village in western Faerghus bordering the Empire. During his youth, an epidemic plagued Faerghus and claimed many lives — but Yuri was saved by the grace of receiving aid from an old man his mother had taken in and nursed back to health. This experience of being saved motivated Yuri in turn to save others, and this became the driving force in his life. Poor as he was, Yuri was sharp-minded and resourceful, and he took up whatever work he had to both to support his mother in her ailing health and to further his dream, even when it stood at odds with his deeply chivalrous values as a Faerghan.
For a brief period, Yuri was adopted by Count Rowe and was able to ply vital information from him through means he refuses to disclose an was even enrolled in the Officer's Academy, but the machinations of others led him to being disowned and made to live in Abyss. In this underground community for those whom society had failed, Yuri stepped up and assumed the mantle of leadership, one whom the people of Abyss looked on with fondness and respect for his capabilities and genuine care for bettering their difficult lives through any means at his disposal. Yuri's ambition grew, as did his notoriety as a criminal lord: he would better the lives of all those struggling and downtrodden.
The Imperial invasion of Garreg Mach, under which Abyss was situated, scattered Yuri and his people and his dreams were consequently shelved. Yuri resigned himself to a more mercenary life when his grand ambitions seemed out of reach, deciding that at the very least he would take pride in protecting his people even if the world came to revile him as a criminal. Despite how he may feel about it personally, despite how it privately rankled his values, Yuri would do what it took to survive... That is, until he was recruited to the Kingdom army and was confronted with a king whose desire for the same changes he sought and dedication to achieving them by honest means renewed his hopes.
abilities:
Here. Yuri moves swiftly and hits with ruthless precision, often capable of dealing critical damage to enemies whether at close range with a sword or throwing knives from a distance. He boasts that he never misses, and he means it. His personal skill, Honorable Spirit, makes him a fiercer attacker when protecting something.
Below are details on notable abilities of his:
Major Crest of Aubin: Crests are a power carried in the blood, which manifests either in minor or major form, which is linked to its potency. Yuri bears the major version of his Crest, supposedly lost to history. In effect, when this power activates (which is involuntary), it prevents an opponent from counter-attacking before Yuri has attacked them twice. This does not, however, guarantee that he will hit his target either time.
Healing: Yuri considers being able to provide a spot heal or apply field medicine very important. This is something in his repertoire that he values, and when he uses recovery items, they're more potent than usual. However, healing magic has finite uses, and Yuri is not a dedicated healer in any timeline, so he's best suited to mild-to-moderate cases.
Offensive Magic: In addition to healing, Yuri can use spells to attack from a distance. Primarily, he specializes in light and wind. His signature attack, Deceit, is a concentration of wind that drags enemies in range toward it, then explodes. He can also imbue his weapon with elemental energy temporarily, for instance with electricity.
Leadership: As with others from school, Yuri has experience leading battalions. He also leads the Abyssians on or off the battlefield. Yuri is skilled in politicking, seeing to the needs of sizable groups, and has experience defending in siege warfare. Well before Yuri is recruited, his men sing his praises as someone who has earned their respect and loyalty.
Criminal Background: You've got a lock? Yuri can pick it. At least, if it's the kind of lock that has physical features that would make it possible to pick it in the first place. When it comes to anything electronically coded, for instance, he's got nothing in that department. Similarly, given his background, he's absolutely capable of theft without detection, and he probably won't feel bad about it either.
Domestic Skill: Yuri's culinary skills are such that he's been told he ought to make a career of being a chef. He's adept at turning even the most unpalatable of ingredients into a delicious meal, a product of being resourceful by simple necessity. Faerghus is poor in natural resources, particularly food, and as a result this is a frequent struggle especially for those with very little money. Yuri loves seeing people really enjoy a good meal, what's more. Also, as is common for Faerghans, he's a capable forager.
personality:
At first blush, Yuri is a self-confident, charming man. He knows just what to say to draw someone in or set them on their heels, and he can bounce between the two so abruptly as to knock others off-balance. Yuri has grown up being objectified and commoditized, and has come to view himself in mercenary terms. His beauty and clever tongue are traits others have coveted in him since childhood, so he has learned to weaponize them. If others would try to use him, he'll make sure he turns it to his advantage.
Yuri's life has been rife with transactional relationships, leaving him expecting others to have an angle or ulterior motive. He doesn't expect honesty from others, and he yields precious little about himself unless someone wins his trust over time. He plays his cards close to the chest, wary of others exploiting vulnerabilities as they have in the past. Few even know his real name. Deep down, he privately hopes for someone to truly know and value him for himself, but it's more fanciful dream than eventuality to him.
For better and for worse, Yuri is fiercely independent, determined to never be controlled by others again. While Yuri is highly competent and self-sufficient, his default is always to devise and execute plans on his own. This lone wolf mentality has often served him well, save that he's just as liable to blindside allies as he is enemies. He struggles to open up to and rely on those around him.
Despite this, Yuri is a genuinely beloved leader. Both observant and a caretaker by nature, Yuri is keenly aware of the people who follow him and those he's allied himself with. He's built up those around him, convincing them that the circumstances of their birth can be overcome with hard work. Yuri aspires to create a better world for the poor, even if he must dirty his hands to do it.
Yuri reviles the corrupt nobility: those who wrap themselves in decadence or abuse their power. He's perfectly willing to find ways to ruin them and exact some justice , and he has a reputation for it. Even so, he yearns to achieve his dream of a better world by honest means, and his time with the Kingdom Army has rekindled hope within him that he can. Criminal though he is, Yuri is still a Faerghan, and as chivalrous as any other.
